The analysis of cultural artefacts, such as cartoons and films, provides the potential to gain insights into both the professional identities of teachers and the behaviour and self-concepts of students. This paper suggests that the ostensibly banal animated cartoon characters Beavis and Butt-head offer some utility in this respect. Earlier reports have shown that prospective teachers' conceptions about teaching science to a high degree are resistant and do not change substantially during the teacher‐training programme. In our investigation we elucidate the prospective teachers' initial conceptions about pupils' understanding of science and mathematics. We applied ‘The Lesson Preparation Method' and used a phenomenographic approach in order to reveal the range of conceptions that the prospective teachers hold. A third of the prospective teachers did not consider pupils' conceptions when planning lessons. The rest of the 32 participants expressed awareness; some of the prospective teachers even referred to subject‐specific teaching experience. Also regarding the prospective teachers' conceptions about pupils' knowledge and beliefs, as well as about pupils' difficulties, there was a significant diversity. By raising these issues about pedagogical content knowledge the prospective teachers' conceptions can be extended and developed during the education. 相似文献

The progress of fracture union requires close monitoring. Whereas, clinical examination and radiographic studies assess the
outcome, biochemical markers like serum alkaline phosphatase and urinary hydroxyproline reflect the actual status of bone
resorption and bone formation over a short time frame. 36 patients of long bone fracture were randomly allocated for the study.
When the patient reported to the Department of Orthopedics after fracture, serum and urinary samples were collected and X-ray
of the affected part were taken. Subsequent samples were collected and X-ray taken just after management (either operative
or conservative), after 3rd, 5th, 8th and 12th week, respectively after onset of fracture. According to the course of callus
formation the patients were divided into two groups that progressed to proper union or malunion. The levels of serum alkaline
phosphatase, urinary total and free hydroxyproline levels were measured and statistically analysed and compared. A statistically
significant positive correlation between total urinary hydroxyproline excretion and serum alkaline phosphatase indicate progress
towards satisfactory union. Thus, serial monitoring of biochemical markers of bone turnover can be used as an adjunct to clinical

Electricity is carried through metallic wires, called conductors. In the process, electrons move through metallic conductors that offer resistance (the value depends on the particular metal used), to the passage of electrons. This leads to the production of heat and loss of energy. This heating process is utilised in many electrical devices. However, for transmission of electrical energy from the power plants to the user and in many other applications, it would be a great boon if no energy was lost to resistance. The discovery of superconductivity by Heike Kamerlingh Onnes in 1911 at Leiden, offered a glimmer of hope to make this dream possible. Earth’s motion through ether was expected to have an effect on the velocity of light in the direction of the relative motion by the law of addition of velocities.
